Guis some players!!
We welcome Guisborough to the Wok for our 2nd DN2 league encounter after last weeks encouraging outing against Barnard Castle. While Sedgie spent the afternoon running a Barneys brick wall defence, Guisbrough were making short work of Darlington, running out comfortable winners by 35 points to 5.
Our opponents this weekend will no doubt be frustrated to be spending another season in DN2, they were comfortably the best side we faced the last time the leagues were played, giving us 2 absolute wallopings home and away!
Hopefully we can be be more competitive this time out and we can be confident as we always give good sides a game on the wok!
Last weeks physical encounter was not without its cost, with injuries testing our small squad, Lee Keillor (Calf), Nathan Waterhouse (Ribs) and Andy Fife and Charlie Johnson (Concussion) all ruled out. Also missing is Seb Wilkins and Will Johnson who is away from last weeks squad. Graham Brennan and John Pope are running the great north run (Why do they do these things!). However, have agreed to go on standby to cover some of our farmers in case they need to harvest.
Having said all of that, we are so blessed to be able to pick a pretty strong squad of players. Having said that, it will be a welcome relief when our squad is back in full so we can start running our Saxons as well.
We welcome back James Allison to the front row, hopefully alongside Captain James Watson and Dan Lawson (Farming commitment permitting) Nick Stringer comes into the second row to give us some line out presence alongside Andy Broere. Our back row has some changes, Mitch Corney is at number 8 with Pedro Gray at blindside and Steven Clark at openside.
Max King is at scrum half after impressing there last time out and Gareth Pratt is at stand off. David Galloway and Sam King form a new centre pairing, out wide Ryan Towler and Jonny Parrish are our gas men. Kyle Smith is a welcome return at full back.
On the bench: Michael Bishop & James Sleight (Debut) provide our pack coverage with Lee Keillor completing the squad. As mentioned earlier, Graham Brennan and John Pope have agreed to be back up options in case farming strips us of James Watson and Dan Lawson.
Good luck to our great north runners and also to Danny Wolfe who is lining up for Team Turnbull in a charity game for a Houghton RFC player who sadly died last year.
Here is hoping for another good game of rugby and a few beers after to celebrate our first home league game in over 17 months!
