Winlaton await!
Sedgie are still in search of our first points of the season and welcome Winlaton to the wok hoping we can pick something up at the fourth time of asking.
Our results have not been what we would like so far but we have been encouraged by performances and the thoughts are we not far away from things coming together. Last week, we didn't enjoy the rub of the green at times and felt we could have scored another couple of tries to bring it closer, however, we are where we are and we are hopeful we can get some points out of the game on Saturday.
Winlaton have one win from three, an opening weekend win over Whitby followed by defeats to Bishop Auckland and Darlington. Games are always interesting between the sides with the previous season seeing both sides winning at home. We would certainly settle for a home win on Saturday.
We continue to miss a few lads, the extended farming season continues to hit us for availability and the usual working and holiday issues. However, numbers are growing week on week and we believe it will be soon that the Saxons will be able to field a side once again.
Team News
Out go, James Watson, Phil Dawson, Jonny Castling, Kyle Smith and Danny Wolfe from last weeks starting XV due to farming/weddings/injury/illness/work so our small squad is again tested. Better news as we reach the end of farming and holiday season and we are seeing lads drift back in meaning we were not far away from getting a Saxons out this week.... As it is we have 6 or 7 lads helping out Seaham 2nds just to get some game time in and finally get some rugby played... hopefully next week the Saxons will assemble once again!
ench to make his first start with
Michael Bishop props with Seb Wilkins returning from holiday to hook. James Allison completing our front row. Pedro Gray returns at 2nd row with evergreen Paul McCormack and the back row sees Mitch Corney continue at number 8, Steve Clark at 6 and young Charlie Johnson returning from injury.
Dave Galloway is again at number 9 with Gaz Pratt at stand off. Sam King and Will Johnson are in the centres while Ryan Towler and Andy Fife wing it. Owen Robinson brings a wealth of experience from full back.
Our finishers see Andy Broere covering the pack, alongside versatile Jonny Parrish who can cover both backs and forwards. Chris Dawson makes a very welcome return to the squad... all are expected to feature heavily.
Good luck to our Saxons helping out at Seaham but especially Dan Machel and Nathan Murray who will be getting their first taste of rugby action after choosing to come and get involved and try something new... Both have bags of potential as they are big, fit and quick lads, We think we can turn them into good players as long as they keep learning and enjoying it, they certainly seem to enjoy the banter! Doug Wardle, Lee Keillor and Lewis White will bring more experience. I think its important for clubs to work together as we try and rebuild our clubs after covid and its great that we can work with Seaham to get games happening.
