2 sides out!
Its been hard work, its taken us till nearly November, we are grateful for some help from our friends at Newton Ayclffe but finally we are in a position to name 2 squads to play rugby on Saturday!!
Lying in wait for the first team is Bishop Auckland, whose positive start to the season will see them visit 'the Wok' in confident mood, The local rivalry between the sides has been fierce with Sedgie narrowly winning the last game between the sides before COVID robbed us of a return fixture in the last season played.
Bishops start has saw them lose twice but win five which stacks up favourably against Sedgies record of just the one win so far. Last weeks frustrating loss away to Whitby again adding to our injury list.. Kyle Smith with suspected concussion must miss 3 weeks under the return to play protocol, Seb Wilkins picked up an ankle injury, Charlie Johnson with a shoulder issue, Gareth Pratt with a knee concern and Paul McCormack has a groin problem.
This week we see some returnees to the squad following injury and unavailability and there is positive news on the horizon as lads drift back in and some more new signings at training! Welcome to Terry Cook and Alex Skuse who are very welcome in adding numbers to our small squad.
The front row will have its hands full with Bishops scrummaging a notable strength, Graham Brennan returns to the side along side James Watson and James Allison. Ex Acklam players Andy Broere and Steve Clark pair up in the second row, Will Johnson is at number 8 while the return of Max King and Dom Ryan is very welcomed as they line up on the flanks.
David Galloway comes into number 9 for the unavailable Nathan Waterhouse, Chris Dawson is at number 10 after finishing the game last weekend. Andy Shepherd and Ryan Towler are on the wings and Andy Fife is at full back.
Our finishers are Dan Lawson covering the front row, Gareth Pratt zooming back from holiday in Spain and new boy Terry Cook covers our back line.
The saxons once again assemble for a trip to Redcar for the second time in 3 weeks, the last game an entertaining game that was more of an 'A' Fixture with both sides including a few first teamers
We may have to go uncontested if an appeal for front row players goes unanswered but its just great to see us put 2 sides out again. Our thanks to Newton Aycliffe for helping us out with a few players
