Another local derby!
Sedgie travel to Seaham for another away fixture (We have played away 6 times already this season and only twice at home!). Its swings and roundabouts though as we look forward to a bit of a run of home games at the wok on the other side!
Seaham have enjoyed a mixed return to DN2 having picked up 2 wins and a draw so far and reports are they are a very handy side having made the jump from DN3. They have taken the scalps of Barnard Castle and Whitby so far and picked up a very creditable draw with Darlington so far and sit in 12th place, 2 places and 4 points above us. Whilst its not going to be easy there is an opportunuty available for us to climb off the bottom of the league if we can pick a result up on Saturday
There are no easy games in DN2 and both sides will have had this penned as one to win to keep clear of the bottom end of the league. Its great to see another small club like us making a go of it at DN2 with both sides having spent much time in the lower leagues and merit leagues over the years.
Availability and injury is impacting the local rugby scene this season with lots of clubs finding it tough to put out consistent sides, Sedgie are no different but there is reports that some of our injury issues are starting to clear and looking at our squad, selection will be very tough when that happens. We remain confident a difficult sequence of results can be changed.
Team News
Mitchell Corney, Chris and Phil Dawson, James Sleight, Kyle Sutcliffe, Max King, Tom Ducker, Andy Shepherd, Massimo Impaggliazzo and Ollie Lines are all on the treatment table with injury and wont be available for Saturday. However, we can still name a pretty strong squad.
Our front row is unchanged following last week with Graham Brennan, James Watson and James Allison all continuing. Pedro Gray is joined in the 2nd Row by Dan Martin and in the back row there is a welcome return from injury for Charlie Johnson who joins Dom Ryan and brother Will Johnson to complete a mobile looking pack.
Owen Robinson tries the 9 shirt on for size and Gaz Pratt gets the ten shirt back after Chris Dawsons injury. John Pope returns to his favoured centre position and partners Phil Greenbank on debut. Danny Wolfe and Terry Cook are the wingmen and Andy Fife is at full back.
Our finishers are full of lads who can make a difference once they join the game, Dan Lawson and Seb Wilkins are joined by the welcome sight of Lawrence Oliver who returns from farming duties to complete a very strong bench.
The Saxons have lost their fixture so we are currently trying to fix them up with some game time.... Watch this space
