As well as we played last week, we were poor this week. A poor start with a lethargic warm up with lads seeming out of sorts and not quite up for it. Not sure why, we just seemed to lack intensity.
The game started as it pretty much went all day, Sedge just not quite where we needed to be.. We were pretty poor first half as we conceded 3 tries to trail 21 - 0. Not that we made Ryton work particularly hard, we held off and just got picked off by their back line. not much to write about in a pretty poor advert or DN 2 rugby.
The Second half was better. Sedgie picking up a couple of consolation tries through Terry Cook and Tom Flatters, unfortunately Ryton also scored another 3 so we were well beaten. Its difficult to say much other that Ryton were better than us and more up for it on the day.
There is no magic spell to fix it beyond hard work... Get down training, listen and just make a better account of ourselves in future.
Terry Cook picked up the Man of the Match for both opposition and the committee - a £25 herd and herb voucher a reward for his efforts... Lucky Mrs Cook is in for a date night courtesy of his performance!
The Saxons were also well beaten by a good Novos side.
Next week the 1sts host Ashington and the Saxons have an away fixture with Northallerton.
We hope for better things.... We certainly hope to play rugby at the level we can achieve which we were well below today.
We will go again
Our thanks to the ref, Les Cash who normally covers level 6... It showed. Really good game management, stamped on the ill discipline from both sides and whilst it took while a some rugby actually broke out. Great to see a ref prepared to explain decisions. Enjoyed our catch up in the bar afterwards and pleased to get some impartial insight into how we can manage the game better. All part of my learning journey as a coach.
Sedgie, we need to believe it will be better in future and keep working hard, keep faith in the game plan and we will bounce back stronger.
