Saxons take on Newton Aycliffe
With the First XV taking a well earned break, Sedgie Saxons take on Newton Aycliffe at Moore Lane on Saturday in a 2pm kick off.
Newton Aycliffe have been on a rebuilding phase after dropping out of the leagues following a loss of players post COVID and have been working really hard to get themselves going again. Its great to see them regularly getting 15 plus out on the park after a tough start to the season for them.
The Saxons have a handy side out for the game including some who have not been seen in a Sedgie shirt for a while that we have been trying to coax back to come and play again, Like most clubs this fixture couldnt have happened at the start of the season with both sides struggling for numbers so its a sign of optimism that the fixture can happen now and we hope things are starting to get back to normal after a pretty bad 2 years for rugby.
Team News
The Saxons have Bobby Blackburn, Neil Hetherington and Stu Walton in an unchanged front row, Andy Broere continues in the second row with Doug Wardle and John Mcgrann competing to line up. The back row sees Michael Reilly and Steve Clark joined by either Paul Wilkinson or Massimo Impagliazzo.
Lee Keillor continues at number 9 with Phil Greenbank at stand off, Jamie Wilson and John Pope are in the centres with Jordan Cooksey, Lewis White and Tom Cramp a very quick back three.
The bench sees a return for Ian Slack alongside 2 more from the selections above.
